A. Admission Requirements
Individuals who hold a Bachelor’s degree in any academic discipline from a recognized university having CGPA not less than 2.0 will be considered for admission into the Master of Science in Computer Science and Engineering program. Students who have weak undergraduate grades or have not come from CS/CSI/CSE/EEE/Applied Physics background will be required to take a number of prerequisite courses (list enclosed) as decided by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Applicants without Science group in HSC (Higher Secondary School) or equivalent level will not be considered for MSCSE UIU admission. The applicant’s undergraduate grade point average (GPA), GRE score and work experience will be considered in the admission process. A personal interview will be encouraged and may be required. Upon acceptance, students will receive a copy of their planned academic program. Students are encouraged to meet periodically with the Program Director to discuss academic progress, career placement and special needs.
B. Degree Requirements
A total of minimum 36 credit hours of graduate course work with a minimum GPA of 2.0 are required to earn the M.Sc. in CSE degree. Students may belong to thesis, project or course only group. Thesis group students should take 18 credit hours course work and 18 credit hours thesis. Project group students should take 30 credit hours course work and 6 credit hours project. Course only group students should take 36 credit hours course work. At least 39 contact hours constitute a 3 credit hour course. To get MSCSE degree (Thesis, Project, Course) with Major (Software Engineering, Intelligent Computing, Network and Communication Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security, Business Intelligence), a student must fulfill the requirements of that major. If any student does not follow the major track requirements, he/she will get MSCSE degree without major. In addition to class work, students have to engage themselves intensively in course-based laboratory works. From the MSCSE 181 Batch and onwards, all students of MSCSE, UIU must complete CSE 6093: Research Methodology and Technical Writing course outside of his/her major track courses. Besides, CSE 6167: Special Topic-I and CSE 6169: Special Topic-II must not be taken for more than one time during the whole MSCSE period in UIU (applicable from 181 MSCSE Batch). Students who have weak undergraduate grades or have not come from CS/CSE/EEE/Applied Physics background will be required to take a number of prerequisite courses (list enclosed) as decided by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
